Lesson 6 of 6 · 5 min
Next Steps: Joining Your Team
You made it to the final session — and that's worth celebrating. Here's the big idea: serving isn't just a task, it's discipleship. Serving doesn't only change the people we help; it changes us, grows us, and draws us closer to Jesus.
What happens after this training
This is a starting point, not the deep end. Your team will give you ministry-specific training for your area. In most ministries you'll begin by shadowing — watching someone serve and asking questions before you carry responsibility on your own. And you'll meet your leader, who is there to help you grow, answer questions, and cheer you on.
How to thrive on a team
A few simple habits go a long way. Ask for feedback — it's coaching, not criticism ("How did that go? What's one thing I can do better?"). Build relationships — some of the deepest friendships in our church started on a volunteer team. And serve with a "yes" spirit: a heart that's willing, flexible, and humble — not one that burns you out.
Finding the right fit
The place you first sign up may not be where God ultimately calls you to stay — and that's okay. The first few weeks can feel overwhelming simply because everything is new, so give it a few months and let your confidence grow. But if you realize a role isn't the right fit, just talk to your leader. You're not signing a lifetime contract, and we'll never guilt you into staying somewhere that doesn't match your gifts. We want you serving where you come alive.
A final word
Serving is sacred. What you do matters deeply — every act of service prepares the way for someone to take their next step toward Jesus. Even when you don't see the outcome, God is using your obedience to change lives. Welcome to the team, and welcome to the journey of becoming more like Jesus as you serve others in His name.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10
