Weekly Update 3/14/2021
DID YOU MISS THIS PAST SUNDAY?
Generations and different religious and political perspectives have brought some confusion and lack of clarity to what the law, or the Word of God, is intended to communicate. Jesus seeks to clarify that He is instituting a new covenant and that the scriptures point to Him and this point in history. He seeks to communicate His new covenant with clarity. Jesus quotes scripture throughout his public ministry, which inevitably means He has made it a priority in his personal and private life. For Him, what we know as the Old Testament, was the Word of God. In this section of scripture we see that Jesus loves, affirms and delights in the law of God. He does not hide the fact and reality that His authority is given to him through the scriptures since He is revealed prophecy in person. Jesus also makes an appeal through this passage for us to be drawn toward a heart level of righteousness that would exceed the external righteousness of the pharisees and the scribes.
